Xpace Cultural Centre is seeking to hire a permeant part-time Communications Assistant

Role
The Communication Assistant will work in collaboration with the Xpace Directors and Coordinators to execute all public facing institutional communications including; social media, newsletters, promotional items pertaining to gallery activities, and press. They will be responsible for creating content and overseeing these channels.
This is a permanent part-time position commencing 25 August, 2026. Compensation is $25.00 (+ 12% in lieu of benefits and vacation)/hour for 16 hours/ week. The schedule per week will be determined by the Artistic Director and Communications Assistant. The position operates in a hybrid format: Communications Assistant must be onsite for at least one day per week, and to attend all gallery events. Remotely, they must be available for at least one-hour per day to monitor Social Media.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Artistic Director, the Communications Assistant will:
- Create content for, design templates for, and distribute the monthly newsletter, including managing membership;
- Organize and distribute event and exhibition promotional materials across social media (Instagram, Facebook) and the website;
- Oversee and manage all Xpace social media accounts;
- Monitor and create content to promote events, exhibitions, and programming across all channels;
- Create and distribute press releases to support gallery programming;
- Propose and oversee website updates in collaboration with the web developer;
- Coordinate distribution of VOLUME and Xpace merchandise;
- Perform event documentation during gallery events;
- Monitor the public-facing info email account and route correspondence as needed;
- Assist with ad-hoc design work as needed;
- Assist Coordinators with archiving exhibition, workshop, and event documentation on the website;
- Assist with virtual workshop production and formatting exhibition essays as needed.
The ideal candidate:
- A self-directed, independent worker confident in managing communications workflows with minimal day-to-day oversight;
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines consistently;
- Possesses excellent written communication and copywriting skills, ideally within a non-profit or arts context;
- Knowledge of and genuine interest in contemporary visual art and graphic design;
- Experience managing social media and newsletter communications for an organization;
- Proficient in the Adobe Suite, Mailchimp, G-Suite, and major social media platforms;
- Comfortable working in a Mac environment;
- Experience with WordPress and/or basic HTML is considered a strong asset.
